Art Reaches back at the Girls’ Club Collection Art Fall Out in Fort Lauderdale October 6th 2012. As an Artist I know the experience of hanging my work and not really knowing how it was received. Are they being nice? If my work didn’t sell is my work being well received?
Art Fallout at Girls’ Club Collectionis a way to get that feedback. It’s a one day exhibition of works on
paper: Artists, judges, the general public including kids write their comments on post its and post next to the work. The Artist picks the comments up when they pick up their work.
When You keep looking a 100 pieces of Art over an evening different things pop out at you
I was there all night volunteering, as the night went on I kept discovering different pieces I didn’t see before. It was awesome to see the exhibition changing as people added their different colored post it on the wall.
The post its are tangible, anonymous feedback for our art. Some are my favorite comments are “Keep going” and “”I like this one”.
What?!! I am not a Natural Social Butterfly!
I had thought I was a social butterfly. I had thought that due to my job in sales where I can talk to anyone about anything. I thought would continue to talk to anyone about anything. I guess in the context of my work I am used to starting that conversation. Standing in the middle of a crowded gallery I am out of context and not used to starting that conversation. I am vaguely puzzled at myself. Then I remember that I am not naturally a people person, I developed strategies to talk people at work, strategies that are so much a part of myself I forget that they are there.
So I will strategize with some Art banter. Next time I’ll be ready! Maybe that’s unromantic but I’ll fake it till I become it.
